Anambra State Government is working to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Accuanalysis Laboratory, Nnewi to grant more hospitals in the state access to use the facility for the COVID-19 and other forms of tests.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba disclosed this on ABS flagship Breakfast Show, Good Morning Anambra, while reviewing the strategies put in the place by the state government to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioner further said that a mega COVID-19 Testing Laboratory with the capacity to test over five hundred samples at the same time, built by Anambra State Government at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Awka will soon be commissioned for full operations.
Mr. Adinuba, who said that the testing laboratory when put in use will be the biggest in South East Region, revealed that the new laboratory was installed in collaboration with a US based medical laboratory establishment, Abbott Laboratory, so it will meet international standards.
He explained that the Laboratory will go a long way in advancing the fight against COVID-19 as well as help to increase the ability to identify any form of community transmission.
Mr. Adinuba explained that Anambra State Government is also helping the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi to also acquire a testing capacity that meets World Health Organization standards.
While answering questions on reopening of Schools, the Information Commissioner said that government is waiting for a plan from the federal government unveiling that already, Government is considering making arrangements for shifts and rotation of academic activities to meet the social distancing protocols upon resumption of Schools.
