Anambra Broadcasting Service ABS was thrown into mourning over the news of the death of the Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs Department of the establishment, Chief Egbuna Amuta.
It was a black Tuesday for staff members of Anambra Broadcasting Service, when the news of the sudden death of one of their own, Chief Egbuna Amuta filtered in around eight o’clock in the evening.
The question on everybody’s lips was, was he sick, but he was at the office on Friday, he attended an event on Sunday, I spoke with him on Monday morning and so on.
While some believed, many refused to believe such sad news not until on Wednesday when the Managing Director And Chief Executive Officer of the ABS Chief Uche Nworah, who was devastated by the news, summoned courage, bracing for the worst, visited the family of late Chief Amuta with the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, C Don Adinuba.
Until his death, Chief Egbuna Amuta who was a member of the Prestigious Agbalanze society of Onitsha Ado n’ iduu kingdom, earning him the title name, Chinweozo Amuta, was the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Media and Grassroots Mobilization, a Deputy Director News And Current Affairs of the ABS, the producer and presenter of ABS radio and television programme, “face the press”, a political Analyst and a prolific writer.
Born on the seventh of November 1962, Chief Amuta graduated from the University of Benin in 1987 and later studied journalism at Times Journalism Institute, Lagos.
He was married with children.
Reacting to the sudden demise of late Chief Amuta, Chief Nworah described the situation as tragic and unfortunate.
To his colleagues in the News department, led by the Director of News and Current Affairs of the ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, his death hit them below the belt.
Other of his colleagues including the Head of Programmes Department, Mrs. Nneka Ekwunife and Chidera Okonkwo of the editing unit, regretted that a talented journalist has been lost describing his death as irreparable.
In all, what can we do other than to resign to the fact that he made an impact in ABS and Anambra state in general, hoping to meet again with him on the last day.
