Data which can be described as facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis is important in decision making of government, especially when it concerns the health sector for an effective and efficient Health care service to the people.
In order to have a comprehensive data that will help the government work seamlessly to Ndi Anambra and other residents of the state, the State government through the Ministry of health in partnership with the European Union and World Health Organization has organized a two day health data consultative meeting in Awka.
Health correspondent Chibuzor Okoye  reports that  the meeting which was attended by all relevant stakeholders in the medical profession as well as development partners working in the state was organized to discuss issues concerning generating, management and accurate use of data in Anambra state.
The Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala while speaking during the meeting said that data is highly critical to the Governor Willie Obiano administration, as according to him, without a qualitative data, nobody can run effective ministry as accurate data drives positive changes in policy formulation.
The Health Commissioner explained that the State ministry of Health wants to have a data that truly reflects the health indices of Anambra state, hence the meeting to bring all relevant stakeholders together to have a robust discussion on how best to achieve the lofty objective.
The Head of Planning, Research and Statistics in the state Ministry of Health, Mrs. Edith Nwachukwu told the ABS that majority of private health facilities in the state do not report to the state in terms of data transmission which affects the state health coverage and expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting will help to address the issue.
Mrs. Blessing Ngene who represents one of the development partners said that her agency collaboratively work with the ministry in data generation and transmission which she said will help the government to plan well for a comprehensive service delivery.
The Director of Public health in the ministry, Dr. Uchechukwu Onyejimbe, a Health management information officer also in the ministry, Mr.  Nwabashili Franklyn were present during the event.
