The Speaker, Anambra State Children’s Parliament, Miss Faustina-Mary
Okoye has commended the management and staff of Anambra Broadcasting
Service, ABS, Awka, for their untiring efforts at giving voice to
children and creating contents that are geared towards holistic child
development.

The Speaker, made the commendation when she led members of the
Parliament on a courtesy call to the Managing Director and Chief
Executive Officer of the ABS, Chief Uche Nworah in his office in Awka.
Correspondent, David Okpokwasili reports that

Miss Okoye stated that the platforms provided by the ABS have helped
to give children in the state a sense of belonging as people, who are
important to the Nigerian policy.

She requested however that more airtime be dedicated to programmes
that will sensitize people especially children on Child’s Right Law
2004, Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law and the Disabilities
Rights Law and for more coverage of the sittings of the Parliament to
help children participate in decision making in the state.

Responding, Chief Nworah said that the establishment understands that
Children are pivotal to many societies as the driver of its future and
therefore always ready to promote the things that will ensure the full
development of Children.

He reassured that given the importance the Anambra State government
has placed on Children and young people, ABS will continue to develop
and create programmes that will give stronger voice to Children.

Earlier, the RoLAC Consultant , Mr Emeka Ejide, hinted that the Rule of Law and Anti Corruption RoLAC, in partnership with the state government is funding the Children’s Parliament to strengthen the participatory Rights of children, which is the most important but less understood, while thanking them for participating in ensuring the establishment of a children’s Correctional centre in the state at Umunze.

The Speaker, Miss Okoye was accompanied to the visit by the Male
Ambassador of Anambra State to the Children’s Parliament at the
Federal Level, Mr. Daniel Ezeaku, a member of the Anambra State Children’s
Parliament, Mr. Chidubem Ezekwe, and the RoLAC Consultant, Mr Emeka Ejide.
