Anambra State Ministry of Transport and the State Sector Command of
the Federal Road Safety Corp have embarked on operation stop overload
and recklessness by tipper drivers in the State.
The operation, aimed at improving safety for motorists and other road
users, is sequel to a resolution passed recently by the State House of
Assembly, directing Governor Willie Obiano to address challenges
associated with activities of tipper drivers in the State.
The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, who restated the
commitment of the State Government to maintaining and improving safety
on roads, said “operation decongest Anambra traffic and roads” will
come on the heels of the ongoing exercise to further improve safety of
other road users, warning motorists to ensure that their vehicles are
road worthy.
The State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Mr. Andrew
Kumapayi, who reechoed caution against unapproved headlights that
usually cause road crashes at night, vowed that road traffic
defaulters will be prosecuted to deter others.
Security agencies, Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs, and officials of
the Anambra Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, are part of the ongoing
exercise.
