The Federal High Court two sitting in Awka, precided over by Justice Babatunde Quadris has struck out a case of libel against six students and a lecturer of Madonna University by the Authorities of the Institution.
This followed the granting of the application for withdrawal by the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami.
Speaking Shortly after the judgment was delivered, one of the accused, Mr Anthony Ezeimo while going down memory lane regretted the untold hardship they went through for a year and five months having stayed in Awka prison for five months.
He appreciated the Judge, the media, human rights organisations and the National Association of Nigerian Students for their roles in securing their release.
The lead Counsel of the accused persons, Barrister Chinedu Igwe appreciated the outcome of the case promising to finalise with the university for the release of the Students’ results.
Contributing, One of the parents of the students, Mr Vincent Onyejekwe while appreciating the media and others called for perfection of the academic excerise of the students for them to be enrolled for national service.
It would recalled that the “Madonna Six” as they were popularly called were arrested on February 7, 2019 for an online publication which the university deemed as libelous and damaging of the image of the Institution.
