Two hundred people from Anambra West Local Government Area have been enrolled into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme.

The enrollment, covering ten persons from each community across the
council area, was the second phase and sponsored by the Commissioner
for Lands, Dr Bonaventure Enemali.

The exercise was inaugurated at Ajandu Hall, Umueze Anam under strict observation of COVID-19 safety protocols.

Commissioner Enemali stressed the need for accessible healthcare
delivery noting that some deaths were as a result of ignorance or
difficulty to access proper healthcare.


Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project
Monitoring, Mr. Ojukwu Ubakasi, Dr Enemali, said he had committed much resources into Education and Health sectors calling on the Committee handling the interventions to register more of vulnerable persons.

In his speech, the member representing Anambra West at the state Assembly, Honourable Patrick Udeoba said that Ndi Anambra West promote
brotherliness and oneness which according to him, is seen in the life
of Dr Enemali, who has remained responsive to the well being of his
people.

In a goodwill message, the Transition Committee Chairman, Anambra West
Council Area, Mr. Sylvester Okafor, while asking the Committee to
ensure equal representation, lamented that those, who were enrolled in
the first phase were not accessing drugs due to location of the
hospital and solicited for the upgrading of some health centers
offering ASHIA services.

On his part, the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi explained that the program, which is the brain child of the present
administration, aimed at making sure that Ndi Anambra access
healthcare delivery without paying much and encouraged them to embrace
the program.

Earlier in his opening remark, the chairman on the occasion, Dr Tony
Uderike said the program will help to wipe out poverty in that area
advising the beneficiaries to avail themselves the opportunity for
healthy living.

The traditional ruler of Ukwalla Kingdom, Igwe Joseph Ajudo and his
Umuenwelum counterpart, Igwe Michael Okoye were among the people that
graced the occasion.
