In honor of Professor Charles Soludo as he marks his sixtieth birthday
anniversary today, the All Soludo Support Groups have instituted an
endowment for an annual award to the best graduating student in the
Department of Economics at both Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus.

The endowment which will run for a period of five years saw the both
institutions receive a cheque for five hundred thousand naira each.

Correspondent, Valentine Mbadugha reports that while
presenting the cheque at the respective offices of the Vice
Chancellors, the ASSG Birthday Planning Committee chairman, Chief Jude
Emecheta remarked that the groups tend to promote values of Professor
Soludo by the endowment.

He expressed optimism that the gesture will go a long way in promotion
of academic excellence.

Contributing, the Committee Secretary, Dr Nelson Omenugha noted that
the idea is to encourage hard work and competition among students
aimed at producing great scholars that will contribute to the growth
and development of the society.

Receiving the cheque in their various offices, the Vice Chancellor,
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone and that of
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Greg Nwakobi
appreciated the group for the gesture.

They called on Ndi Anambra to invest in education to help build a
better society, describing such gesture as the best anyone can offer
to mankind, noting that those who have education close the gate of
imprisonment.

Some members of the Universities Governing Council and the Heads of
other Pro- Soludo groups witnessed the presentation.
