News and Current Affairs Department of the Anambra Broadcasting Service Awka, has won the maiden edition of the ABS Interdepartmental Sports Challenge, football category after a tough encounter with the Onitsha Station team that ended two goals to nothing on penalty shootouts.
It was a tough match indeed as the best teams in ABS locked horns at the pitch, displaying both vigour and skills.
Likewise, Onitsha team of table tennis category has won the tennis game after beating the opponent, commercials department in the game which witnessed a display of skills and talents throughout the game which awed the spectators while team Amaecom won team Swiss Metrotils in Volleyball category.
Speaking shortly after the game, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Chief Uche Nworah commended the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by all the teams that participated in the tournament, and encouraged those that lost in the game to go back and train for the next year’s tournament.
Chief Nworah, pointed out that what matters in the game was not who won or lost, rather the actualization of the main aim which is to strengthen spirit of brotherhood amongst staff members of the establishment, and appreciated all that sponsored the game.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Member ABS Board of Directors, Mr. Marcel Manafa, observed that sports tournaments createk bond amongst staff members of any organization, and commended the MD of ABS for the initiative.
For the Director of News and 8Current Affairs Department of the ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze who said he was overwhelmed on his boys’ victory in the tournament, commended them for making the department proud and envy of other departments of the establishment, and expressed hope that the News department will still win the tournament in 2021.
Also speaking the Captain of News and Current Affairs Department, Mr.Valentine Mbadiugha while thanking God for the team’s victory, pointed out that what made them win the game was teamwork, saying that the team will train more for more victories ahead.
