The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama has
called for a total overhaul of the Nigeria’s Education sector for a
better society.

Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja bureau reports that Archbishop Kaigama, who
made the call during an interactive session with the media, attributed
the social ills in the country, to low standard of education.

According to him, some of the indelible lessons COVID-19 pandemic left
for Nigeria are highly insufficient medical facilities and that most
of the educational facilities in many public schools and institutions
are not in line with global best practices.

He therefore advocated that well equipped and functional medical
facilities be available and accessible in all the seven hundred and
seventy-four local government areas of the country while education
should be given priority and switched to online like other countries
of the world.

Archbishop Kaigama described as good news that government is allowing
exit classes to resume but cautioned that all precautionary measures
against COVID-19 be taken to safeguard the children.
