Anambra State Government has flagged off the distribution of
fifty-five trucks of food items donated by Private Sector Coalition
Against COVID-19, CACOVID.
The relief materials, which include cartons of noodles, bags of rice,
garri, salt, sugar, among others are to be distributed to indigent
households in Anambra State.
Over now to Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that apart from the already arrived fifty-five trucks of the relief
materials, Anambra State is still expecting more thirty-three trucks
from the organization, as they are expected to donate, a total of
eighty-eight trucks.
Speaking during the event which took place at the State Emergency
Management Agency, SEMA, Governor Willie Obiano represented by his
Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke while appreciating the organization for the
gesture, said that this period of COVID-19 pandemic calls for charity
works as the outbreak of the pandemic has rendered many helpless,
owing to its huge negative effects on the world’s economy.
The Governor assured that the items will be equitably distributed to
the targeted persons across the state.
In his remark, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin
Emefiela, represented by Divisional Head, GTBank, Mr. Chima Azubuike
while describing CACOVID as an organization that is committed to
waging war against COVID-19 across Nigeria, pointed out that the
palliatives were donated to the state to cushion the effects of
Coronavirus on the indigent persons and harped on the need for proper
distribution of the materials.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo
Chukwulobelu assured that Anambra State Government will not distribute
the items only to Anambra indigenes, hence the need for more donations
to the state by the group and other bodies.
In their various speeches, the President General of Isuaniocha
community, Mr. Oforbuike Mkpume, his Nsugbe counterpart, Mr. Osita
Nwoye, and a beneficiary from Nsugbe, Mrs. Nkiruka Okoye thanked the
group, the federal and state governments for the support and prayed
that COVID-19 ends soon.
Government functionaries present during the event were Director State
Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Cy Agupugo, Commissioner for Health,
Dr Vincent Okpala, that of Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi
Mezue, among others.
