Supremacy battle between Konti Football Club, Umunnachi and Ogene Football Club, Obeledu, ended 2 – 1 in favour of the Konti FC, in a friendly challenge match held at St. Paul’s Stadium, Obeledu, in Anaocha Local Government Area of the State.
Joseph Egbocha reports that to maintain title as “Anambra Governor’s Cup Champions”, the Konti FC humbled their host, the Ogene FC with two goal to nothing, within first thirty minutes of the first half, while the Ogene FC made spirited efforts to equalize the goals, but ended scoring one within the first thirty minutes of the second half of the match.
Captains of the teams, Onyeka Chidi of Konti FC and Nnamdi Obidigbo of Ogene FC said team spirit enabled them achieve results in the fiercely contested challenge match, commending officials for being fair to both sides of the game.
The Chief Executive Officer of Konti FC and Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Engineer Emeka Okonkwo, and his Ogene FC counterpart, Honourable Ikeobi Ejiofior, said the challenge match is, among other things, aimed at exposing and harnessing youths potential in football sports activities.
They called for holistic approach in the development of sports at the grassroots, commending the Obiano administration for the keen interest in harnessing youths potential in sports, which they noted is evident in upgraded of sports facilities in the State, successful hosting of the Nigeria Police Games, Anambra 2020, and the inauguration of Caretaker Committee for Anambra State Football Association.
Member representing Anaocha Two Constituency in the State Assembly, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, Anaocha Local Government APGA Chairman, Barrister Ndubisi Obiadi, were among spectators at the event.
A return match between the teams is scheduled for a later date.
