The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Works to urgently desilt the under-road water channel at Mmili Odida Abatete along the Oraukwu-Abatete boundary axis.
The House passed the resolution following a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Idemmili North Constituency, Honorable Ifeanyi Chiekwu during yesterdays plenary.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that Honorable Chiekwu explained that the Oraukwu-Abatete Road serves as the major access directly connecting Oraukwu to Abatete and by extension other communities in Idemmili North Local Government Area.
He revealed that the excess water flowing out on the access road has over time accelerated the dilapidation and deterioration of the road which impedes vehicular and human movements.
The Lawmaker maintained that the pitiable condition of the spot calls for serious concern and requires urgent desilting of the under-road water channel that has been blocked by sand so as to ensure easy flow of water under the Road.
On his part, the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Honorable Emma Nwafor also spoke in favour of the motion.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honorable Uche Okafor who noted that good road network facilitates movements of goods and services urged the Ministry of Works to desilt the water channel to avoid casualty.
