As youths were globally celebrated yesterday, Anambra state government has reassured its unflinching commitment towards making sure that Ndi Anambra youths are gainfully engaged in the political and socio-economic development of the state.
Anambra Commissioner for Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie stated this during a press briefing at the state Ministry of Youths Empowerment and Creative Economy in Awka, to kick start the Youth Day celebration in Anambra.
Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that while describing youths as not just the leaders of tomorrow but catalysts in the socio-economic development and growth of any nation, Professor Obiekezie called on youths in Anambra to make themselves available to be engaged in the development and growth of the state.
She pointed out that the Anambra state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has since inception of his administration has remained youth friendly, as youths occupy a lot of positions in his government.
Professor Obiekezie noted that the Governor Obiano led
administration had through the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy initiated “One Youth One Skill program” that has trained over seven hundred youths in different skills ranging from Confectioneries and Event Management, Computer Management and Software Application, POP, Tilling, Screeding and Interlocking, Cosmetology, to Solar Installation.
In a remark, the NYSC state Coordinator, Mr. Aremu Kehinde while commending Governor Willie Obiano for engaging the youths in his administration, advocated engagement of youths by leaders at all levels for a better and more developed society, and called on youths in leadership positions to prove their mettle through quality service delivery in order to gain the trust of the elderly towards youths.
Also present at the event were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Marcel Manafa, Managing Director Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Mr. Ifeanyi Aniagor, among others.
