Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Commissioner for Transport and the Head of the Vehicle Inspection Office to supervise proper road worthiness of the vehicles before issuance of certificates to the owners.
The resolution was sequel to a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Orumba South Constituency, Honourable Emma Nwafor during plenary in Awka.
House of Assembly Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim was there and reports that while explaining the motion, Honourable Nwafor attributed most of the road accidents in the State to poor maintenance of vehicles, which is a product of non compliance to road testing before issuance of road worthiness certificate by the Vehicle Inspection Officers.
He noted that subjecting vehicles to test before issuance of vehicle licenses and road worthiness certificates will reduce significantly the level of road accidents and ensure that vehicles plying the roads are in good condition.
The Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike who presided over the plenary urged the appropriate authority to ensure that vehicles plying the state roads are subjected to test before issuance of vehicle license and road worthiness certificate.
Also at plenary, the House passed another resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to award the construction of the
Akwaeze-Adazi-Enu-Ogwoniojie, Enugu Adazi road with a spur to Nnokwa.
The resolution was sequel to a motion sponsored to that effect by the member representing Anaocha Constituency One, Honourable Ebele Ejiofor.
The Legislator lamented that the deplorable condition of the road had caused untold hardships to motorists, commuters and other road users at large, especially during festive periods, which is usually characterized by increase in both vehicular and human movements.
