The Governing Council of Anambra State Polytechnic Mgbakwu led by its Chairman Professor C. P. E. Omaliko, has paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Solid Minerals and Energy, Barrister Sally Mbanefo.


Receiving the Council Members in her Office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Awka, Barrister Mbanefo expressed satisfaction with the achievements and level of development recorded so far in the Polytechnic by the State Under the watch of Governor Willie Obiano which included among other things NBTE Accreditation of the Polytechnic and its Courses, enrollment in TETFund Interventions, JAMB enlistment and various infrastructural developments across the Institution.


While appreciating members of the Governing Council for their untiring and positive efforts in carrying out the mandate of raising ANSPOLY to World Class standard in Education as charged by the Governor, she advised and encouraged the Management to ensure that all the COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention Protocols are put in place in the Institution in readiness for the phased reopening of schools for students.


Barrister Mbanefo called on the Council to give her updates on areas of concern in the Polytechnic to enable her channel the information to appropriate authorities with a view to achieving more in less time.
The Commissioner extolled the Governor for all the
infrastructural and human development projects already in place at the Polytechnic and the ones still coming up and for all his numerous developmental projects being executed simultaneously in the State especially the ongoing Cargo Airport.


She noted that the Airport, when completed will be a huge source of IGR to the State and serve to attract more students to the Polytechnic and indeed other Tertiary Institutions in Anambra State, describing him as the Governor who has the interest of his people at heart.


She encouraged the Council to strategize on developmental plans and projects that can be put in place taking the advantage of the Cargo Airport and charged them to put up IGR Generation projects to complement Government’s efforts, even as she assured that she is ever ready to welcome and work with the Council to ensure the realization of the Governor’s Vision for establishing the Polytechnic.


Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Council, Professor Omaliko, said that the main reason for the visit was to officially welcome the Commissioner to ANSPOLY as a Member of Council recounting that Governor Obiano, in his wisdom, made both the Chief of Staff and the Commissioner, statutory members of the Council as a way to help fast track the development and growth of the young Polytechnic.


He stated the achievements recorded so far in the Institution to include NBTE Accreditation of the Polytechnic among other things and expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the all round infrastructural and human development projects being executed.


In her response on ANSPOLY’s preparedness for the phased reopening of schools for the exit students, the Rector Dr. Nneka Mefoh, stated that the fumigation of the environment has been done and efforts being made to put all COVID-19 Prevention Protocols in place as directed by the Governor.
In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Barrister Pauline Nwandu expressed her joy for the visit and thanked the Council for the initiative.
