Anambra State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association has held a
special thanksgiving service and reception in honour of the newly
elected President of the Association, Barrister Olumide Akpata.
Correspondent, Odinaka Nwolisa reports that the colorful event, which
took place at the All Saint’s Cathedral Church Onitsha, was officiated
by Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Dr Owen Nwokolo.

According to members of the Association, the event was the first of
its kind in the annals of history of the Association  celebrating a leader from another region with personalities from across the country in attendance.

In his sermon, Bishop Nwokolo, who described the position as an act of
grace to serve God and humanity, asked Barrister Akpata to seek the
face of God as he discharges his duties.
Responding, Barrister Akpata, who expressed gratitude to God for
emerging victorious, promised to champion the course of the NBA and
thanked the Anambra State chapter for the wonderful act of charity and
massive support.

Assuring of intensified efforts in propagating Justice delivery and
rule of law, Barrister Akpata announced his determination to work
harmoniously with two Anambra State national officers.
Describing him as a courageous and fearless advocate of human rights,
the Onitsha Branch Chairman, Barrister Onochie Ononye said the
celebration was to rekindle hope that the two tenures will yield 
purposeful and lasting legacies.

Speaking on his expectations, a former Legislator, Barrister Chugbo
Enwezor, who laid credence on the ability of the new leader, urged him
to navigate on national issues of public interest and fight for the
promotion of the rule of law while Igwe Roland Odegbo of Nteje
community, advocated the need for the President elect to represent
justice for the down trodden and contribute in facilitating quick
dispensation of justice delivery in the society.

Various speakers  including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and
Chancellor, Diocese on the Niger, Barrister Nnamdi Ibegbu, Anambra
State Coordinator Barrister Akpata campaign team, Barrister Ada
Obinna-Edozie, Barrister Obioma Ogelle, among others were optimistic
that the new President will improve and transform NBA.

Special rendition by the choir and cultural dance added color to the event.
