Abacha Community in Idemili North Council Area has  thrown its weight behind the action of Anambra State government  in  suspending  its traditional ruler, Engineer. GBC Mbakwe.

Members of the community registered their displeasure over his recent misconduct by staging a peaceful protest which took off from the Community’s Civic Center, Abacha, through streets of the community and ended up at the Government House, Awka.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that  the community members carried various placards and banners which read “Abacha community remains totally in support of Chief Sir Willie Obiano Akpokuodike global”, “Abacha is a peaceful community”, “We support Anambra State Government”, “We condemn Igwe GBC Mbakwe’s actions”, “Abacha is at peace with Akpokuedike global”, “We say no to tyranny and high handedness of the suspended Engr GBC Mbakwe”, among others.

Recall that following   the recommendation of the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Anambra state government suspended the Igwe and eleven others.

Speaking earlier at Abacha, an elder in the community, Chief Nelson Olife stressed that their position was a collective decision and urged  government  to carry on with any action it deems fit to restore  honour of the royal stool

Communicating the position of the community to the Anambra State government , the President General Abacha, Chief Ifeanyi Obata pointed out that  the community has received  a lot of  democracy  dividends from the Obiano-led administration  and described  the action of Engr. Mbakwe as shameful and a sabotage.

Responding on behalf of Anambra state governments, Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Town Union and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barrister Vera Okechukwu noted  that Abacha people are peace loving and assured that their position will be duly communicated to the state government.
