The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe has received a commendation
letter from the Anambra State Small Business Agency, ASBA, for being
the first traditional ruler to support and galvanize Onitsha youths
into Cooperative societies to obtain soft loans from the Agency.
The commendation letter was handed over to the Igwe by the Managing
Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka
during a courtesy visit by the Agency at his Ime obi palace, Awka road
Onitsha.
Correspondent, Emengini Osadebe, who was there for the ABS, reports
that the event was held under strict observance of COVID-19 protocols.
The commendation letter, which was accompanied with open cheques for
thirty-five million naira, pre signed by the Obi, was also handed over
as a prove that the soft loan has been paid in full at the appointed
time by the seven cooperative societies of Onitsha Youths.
In his speech, Igwe Achebe restated his readiness to doing more
business with the Agency as Onitsha community is poised at creating
modern concept for its youths, who are going to be commercial
entrepreneurs.
While thanking Governor Willie Obiano for establishing ASBA, Igwe
Achebe promised to ensure that the cooperatives are sustained and
supported to change the mindset of the youths and re-establish Onitsha
core value.
Earlier, Chief Chukwuka explained that Governor Obiano established ASBA
in 2016 to eliminate poverty in the State.
In their separate speeches, the representatives of the seven
cooperative societies appreciated Governor Obiano and ASBA for the
initiative and Igwe Achebe for standing in for them as their father.
Later in an interview, the National President, Onitsha Youth Council
and ASATU Youth Wing, Honorable Patrick Agha-Mba expressed gratitude
to God for the honour and privilege, describing Governor Obiano as
one, who believes so much in empowering the Youths.
Highpoints of the event were presentation of discharge letters to the
seven cooperative societies, the commendation letter and cheques to
Igwe Achebe by ASBA boss, Chief Chukwuka.
