Stakeholders have advocated a paradigm shift in reviving
trans-generational entrepreneurial apprenticeship culture among
NdIgbo.

Discussants at the opening ceremony of research on “Invigorating Igbo
Entrepreneurial Behavior through Enhanced Apprenticeship Scheme, a
study of Onitsha markets” organized by UNZIK Business School in
Onitsha, upheld the views that Igbo ethnic remains pacesetters in
commercial and entrepreneurial activities across the globe.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe
University Awka, Professor Charles Esimone, identified apprenticeship
as viable vehicle and tool for successful accomplishment in the field
of human endeavor.

Represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Fredrick
Odibo, Professor Esimone said the research tends to re-invent entrepreneurship as enshrined in African ideology and regretted that the quest for materialism and get-rich- quick syndrome have waned the skill.

Earlier in an address, the Director, Unizik Business School, Professor
Nkemdili Nnonyelu harped that the project seeks to interface with the
business community in providing answers to threats and challenges
militating against Igbo entrepreneurial spirit and apprenticeship
scheme.

Professor Nnoyelu pointed out that building bridges in transfer of
knowledge and skills, technological -know-how, mentorship in job creation
as well as investment opportunities are ideas broached by the sponsor
of the project, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo.

Speaking at the event, the facilitator, Dr Okonkwo, who traced the
origin and themelogy of Onitsha market literature, maintained that
its eminent status has earned international recognition in the world
history.

A resource person, Professor Ezimma Nnabuife, who lamented that
apprenticeship, does not exist at same level, called for
re-orientation of the value system in the society.
The President-General, ASMATA, Chief Ikechukwu Ekwegbalu, noted the
readiness of the traders and captains of industry to align with the
scheme.
