The Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Willie Obiano, Mr Uzuegbunam Okagbue has built and donated a standard bungalow to a widow, Mrs Adaobi Ezeobi, of Mgbuke Village, Umunachi in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
Mrs Ezeobi, whose husband died in his prime in September 2019, soon began to have accommodation problem and threats of eviction by her late husband’s relatives, but ran into luck when Mr
Okagbue was told about her travails.
Mr Okagbue, who is also the Chief Protocol Officer to Governor Obiano, having been touched by the widow’s tribulations, immediately took it upon himself to erect a new house for her , a project that was completed in less than two months.
The house, a three-room bungalow, also has a borehole for the supply of water to the area.
Mr Okagbue who was represented at the function by the Transition Committee Chairman of Dunukofia Local Government Area, Mr Emeka Okonkwo, said that the widow’s story was one that raised deep empathy, having lost her husband in a tragic circumstance and being pressured by threat of eviction.
He noted that he was inspired by the Wife of the Governor of Anambra State Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano, whose non-governmental organization, the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, has built a record twenty eight houses for widows and less privileged women across Anambra State, appealing to those who have been fortunate to be blessed with resources to do the same for poor people around them.
The Vicar of Immanuel Anglican Church, Umunachi Venerable Louis Ezenwata, who prayed over the house, said that the donor had set an example for the society by upholding the biblical admonition of charity and compassion.
On her part, the beneficiary, Mrs Ezeobi, who spoke admits tears, prayed for consistent blessing for Mr Okagbue, his family and Governor Obiano.
