Anambra State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency, has inaugurated the fourth phase of the COVID-19 Sensitization Programme tagged “Building  A People of  Peace” with the  theme “Working  Together  to Overcome  COVID-19” at  Ichida  in Anaocha  Local  Government  Area.

The  State  Director  of the  Agency, Mr Charles Nwoji while performing the function said the programme is  also  focusing on health and  security and  blamed the  recent  increase in the cases of rape, incest, spouse  battering and  obnoxious widowhood practices among other violence against persons in the  Society on the lock down occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Mr Nwoji, who  told  the participants that violence against  persons are rampant in the  Country both in the  Urban  and Rural Communities, reminded the people that  Anambra State Government is committed to  ensuring the enforcement of the Violence  Against Persons Prohibition Law 2017.  

The  Deputy  Director in charge of Programmes at  the National Orientation Agency, Sir  Joseph  Uchendu, informed the  participants that the Coronavirus pandemic is still active, saying that  it  has killed millions of people in the  United Kingdom, United States of America, and  Spain among other  developed  Countries and charged  the  people to  be wise as  the lockdown  has caused increase in insecurity  and  Violence Against Persons.

 The  Chairman  Transition  Committee for  Anaocha  Local Government  Area, Mr. Onyedum, represented by the  Public  Relations  Officer of the  Local Government, Mrs.  Ginika  Ibuchi, described the  event  as  an eye  opener, pointing out that the Federal Government has provided all  enabling  laws to  guard against  all  forms of violence  against  persons in the Country.
