Despite a recent press statement by a section of Nanka community that all is well with the town, the Ezeokweghi Ezeofor royal family of the community has called for the state government’s intervention in what they called fragile peace existing there.
The family had in a press briefing in Awka, alleged that Nanka is still very much troubled with community leadership.
Correspondent, Ngozi Obileri was at the briefing and reports that while making their stand known, the National Chairman, Ezeokweghi Ezeofor royal family Chief Ben Okeke, said that peace comes with respect to people’s rights to justice which he said is very far from what is happening in the community.
He said that all they were asking for is for their complaints to the police which was later charged to court to be allowed to run its course.
Adding his voice, Chief Joseph Enemuo, said that they are waiting for the government to restore peace in Nanka by allowing celebration of the last ofala of the late Igwe Gilbert Ofomata, whose last Ofala has not been officially held before a new traditional ruler emerged.
He maintained that most communities in Igbo land do not coronate a new traditional ruler without performing the last ofala of an Igwe that joined his ancestors. According to them, the government’s directive that traditional institution leadership should be rotational is binding, but that their late king deserves his last respect, which is final ofala in his palace.
