Alor Community Stakeholders including Alor People’s Convention, Ndi Ichie and Cabinet Members of Igwe -in -Council has organised a joint rally to show appreciation to Governor Willie Obiano for his developmental strides in Anambra state, especially the Governor’s various interventions to ensure that life and properties of Ndi Anambra are secure, and peace reigns in Anambra.
They also apologized on behalf of their traditional ruler, Igwe MacAnthony Elibe Okonkwo who was suspended by the state government for one year for his involvement with other 11 suspended Anambra traditional rulers in travelling to Abuja to see President Muhammed Buhari without informing the state government.
The rally which attracted various groups in the community including Chief Okechukwu Unegbu also known as “Odejimjim” was held at Obi Alor , Idemili South Local Government Area.
Addressing the gathering, the Onowu of Alor, Chief Ben Udeze said the essence of the rally by the entire community was to show their love and support to their traditional ruler who had openly apologized to the state government for his actions, and also for the peace and unity of Alor kingdom.
Chief Udeze who pleaded with the Governor to listen to their cry and forgive their Igwe’s mistake solicited Governor Obiano’s assistance in restoring peace and tranquility in Alor.
Earlier in an address, The President General, Alor People’s Convention, Honourable Chris Okudo pleaded to the Governor to grant clemency not only to their Igwe but to the other Traditional Rulers who also made the mistake of traveling out of the State without following due process, saying that they love their Igwe who has ruled them for six years without any problems, hence they deemed necessary to tender apology on his behalf to the State Government.
In their separate speeches, a member of the Igwe’s cabinet Chief Chukwuemeka Azubogu and a member of Umuokpu Alor, Mrs Chikodili Anoruka prayed for love, unity, peace and tranqulity to be restored in Alor adding that they are not part of the protest organised by some groups in Awka which according to them was aimed at truncating the existing peaceful coexistence in Alor Community and solicited for their Igwe to be forgiven.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Honorable Ikem Muoedu who regretted their Igwe’s mistake stated that Alor Community has been peaceful for the past six years, but lamented that some group of people want to capitalise on their Igwe’s mistake to distabilize the community.
He maintained that Governor Willie Obiano is a man of principles who believes in rule of law and due process and that was why he instituted a caretaker committee headed by Honourable Okudo to over see the affairs and enthrone peace in the community, adding that their tenure has been revalidated by the government.
Others who spoke to the ABS include the Chairman, Umuokwu Village, Sir Kanna Aniefuna and a member of Igwe’s cabinet, Chief Olisa Okonkwo described Igwe MacAnthony Elibe Okonkwo as Governor Obiano’s first son, being the first Traditional Ruler to receive recognition from the Governor and begged for his forgiveness while pledging Alor People’s unalloyed support to the Governor.
Highpoint of the event was the solidarity march with placards of different inscriptions such as “we love our Governor, Governor please forgive our Igwe,” Igwe Elibe Okonkwo is Igwe Oranyelu we love him among others.
