The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr.
Simeon Onyemaechi says Governor Obiano has succeeded in giving Ndi Anambra a Health Insurance Scheme that will thrive beyond his administration.
Speaking at ‘Meet the Media’ which engages Commissioners and Heads of Agencies in the state on exclusive and constructive insight into the Obiano administration, Dr. Onyemaechi stressed that out of the more than ninety thousand enrollees , thirty thousand are sponsored from
the informal sector under its adoption model.
Dr Onyemaechi who explained that the scheme which is backed by law has surpassed the number targeted for its sustainability, pointed out that institutionalization of the scheme by the Governor is a legacy that would benefit future generations.
He explained that the National Health Insurance Scheme had failed which was why it was not existent in Anambra prior to the Obiano-led administration and disclosed that so far, ASHIA has accredited over two hundred hospitals in the State with specific interest in hard -to -reach areas, adding that it does not owe capitation fees of such hospitals which include zero point five subsidy by the governor.
While noting that response from philanthropists is not yet enough, Dr.
Onyemaechi called on more people to key into the scheme, adding that about eight states have come to learn from Anambra’s health insurance model, which grants preventive and curative access to solve the healthcare needs of Ndi Anambra.
According to the ASHIA boss, who restated that the premium is twelve thousand naira per annum, currently, ASHIA is in over one hundred communities in the state, which he said resulted to decline in maternal and infant mortality as the scheme is for everybody resident in the state.
‘Meet The Media’, an exclusive insight into the Obiano administration is the brainchild of the Governor Obiano’s Media Team, anchored by Chief Press Secretary, Mr. James Eze and his Deputy, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, among other media executives.
