The Ezeokweghi-Ezeofor Royal family of Enugwu village Nanka in Orumba North Local government area has commended Governor Willie Obiano for his developmental strides in the Community and for carrying traditional rulers along in the affairs of his administration.
They gave the commendation at a press conference at Nanka, during which they dissociated themselves from those alleging that constitutional and Chieftaincy succession crisis do exist in the Community.
Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that at the press conference, the royal family, comprising eight kindreds, thanked the Obiano administration for the recent car gifts to Anambra Traditional Rulers, describing it as a practical way of supporting local industry, such as INNOSON Motors.
They averred that a press conference earlier organized by few of their family members, in which they called for the last Ofala celebration for the late Igwe Gilbert Ofomata, did not represent the opinion of overwhelming majority of the Ezeokweghi-Ezeofor royal family or Enugwu-Nanka, led by Chief Ebenezer Onyekwelu. They said that since the death of Igwe Ofomata in 2015, three of their family members appear to be scheming to corner for themselves and their children, the chieftaincy stool of Nanka Community, adding that the stool in Nanka is not hereditary to any person or group in the Community.
Speaking through Chiefs Walter Ahanonu, Eddy Nwosu and High Chief Osita Ezechukwu, the Ezeokweghi-Ezeofor royal family, one of the twenty-three administrative wards in Nanka, declared support for Governor Willie Obiano, Igwe Godwin Ezeilo and the President-General of Nanka Patriotic Union, Chief Paul Chinedu.
They noted that the last Ofala for the late Igwe Ofomata was performed on twenty-third January, 2016, in line with Nanka Town Union and Chieftaincy constitution of 2011, describing any information on the contrary as distortion of facts.
Lending their voices, Reverend Canon John Ezeike, a one-time Chairman of the royal family, Mrs Patricia Akpu, on behalf of Umuada, and Mrs Nnenna Obijiaku, for sisters-in-law, pledged support to Igwe Godwin Ezeilo and Governor Obiano.
