An ultra modern community children’s home, otherwise known as Motherless Babies Home, built and lavishly furnished by the fallen founder and Chairman, Tonimas Nigeria Limited, Dr. Anthony Obiagboso Enukeme (OON), Onowu Neni, will be inaugurated tomorrow. The event, which will be performed by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, at the complex Ugwudunu village, Neni, near the Neni Town Union Secretariat, will commence at 10am.

Dr. Enukeme embarked on the construction of the magnificent edifice to solve the accommodation problem facing children at the home. Before embarking on the humanitarian project, Onowu Neni, a philanthropist par excellence, had been paying regular visits to the home, giving them fatherly care.

Historically, it was Alan Cox, a Methodist Minister, along with other missionaries, that started the Ovim, later Uzuakoli Motherless babies Home in 1958. An orphanage or a motherless Babies Home or in the modern parlance, community children’s home, is a residential institution or group home, devoted to the care of orphans and other children who were separated from their biological families.

Examples of what would cause a child to be placed in an orphanage are when the parents are deceased, the biological family are abusive to the child or mental illness in the biological home that is detrimental to the child, or the parents had to leave to work elsewhere and were unable or unwilling to take the child.

Therefore, as the Community Children’s Home, Ugwudunu Neni, is inaugurated tomorrow, living parents may wish to provide their children with better living standards in the Home than they can provide due to poverty, homelessness, disability, chronic illness and natural disasters. Also, children from broken families or those born out of wedlock, can now find solace in the Neni Modern Motherless Babies Home. By this support, Late Dr. Enukeme has made the Community Children’s Home bigger and better in order to have an impact.

He knew that government cannot do everything to support those in the homes. Things that we take for granted, such as food, healthcare and education, are not readily available to everyone; not even charitable organizations. Owners of such homes often need extra support. That was what late Dr. Enukeme had in mind.

Dr. Enukeme helped the Community Children’s Home in his town, Neni, to take on more children and provide better  quality care, create more impact and reach more orphans in need. With this edifice, late Dr. Enukeme has solved the emotional, social and psychological problems facing children in the home.

For instance, children can now grow up in an environment where they have opportunities to play freely, express their views and forge their individual identities. So, as the Community Children’s Home, Ugwudunu Neni, built by the Late Dr. Enukeme, is being inaugurated tomorrow, all hands should be on deck to ensure that the dreams of this philanthropist will not be in vain.

Everybody, including friends of the late business mogul, associates, well to do individuals, community members and all lovers of goodwill, should team up to care for these children whose families are unable to cater for them. This Community Children’s Home at Neni is very important to help enrich the lives of the towns youngest members, and encourage them to continually strive for better future. This was the dream of the late Dr. Anthony Obiagboso Enukeme.

The Late Dr Anthony Obiagboso Enukeme, has, by this edifice he built for motherless children, left viable and enduring footprints on the sands of time. May this dream he nurtured and brought to reality be a vehicle for resuscitating children, who have nobody to take care of them.

The sister in charge of the Home, Reverend Sister Nkechi Catherine Okafor, together with the management and children at the home, is inviting the public to the event. Remember that there are numerous blessings for the art of charity.
