Anambra State government through the Ministry of Basic Education has started distribution of infrared thermometer to primary and secondary schools in the state.
Comissioner for Basic Education Professor Kate Omenugha in company of Commissioner for Health Professor Vincent Okpala, Chairman ASUBEB, Chief Patrick Ugboaja, Chairman Post Primary School Service Commission PPSSC, Lady Ify Okaro, commenced the distribution to the Heads schools in Awka Educational Zone at Asubeb Hall Awka.
Education Correspondent, Theophilus Ukoha reports that Commissioner Omenugha while addressing the school Principals and Head Teachers of primary schools,said the state government is concerned about the health condition of students and pupils of the state especially now that schools resumed amidst COVID- 19 pandemic, and therefore deemed it necessary to provide the infrared thermometer to check the tempareture status of students with a view to take precautionary measures to protect them from infection .
She therefore charged each Head of schools to make effective use of the thermometer in their various schools.
In his speech Commissioner for Health Professor Vincent Okpala while appreciating the readiness of the teachers to join in fighting the pandemic urged them to strictly adhere to the COVID- 19 protocols and make sure that each student or pupil is checked for possible detection.
Later in an interview the Chairman ASUBEB Chief Patrick Ugboaja said the distribution of the thermometer followed the training of teachers on how to handle students and pupils on resumption of schools,in which it was noticed that most schools do not have the infared thermometer.He therefore thanked the state government for providing solution to the challenge.
Some of the teachers expressed happiness and gratitude to the state government and Ministry of Basic Education, incluing Mr Cyprian Emelife , Principal Nneamaka Secondary School Ifitedunu,Mrs Seline Uchenna Enemuo, Headteacher Orabuike Central school Enugwu ukwu, Lady Rose Nwaokolo Head teacher Agulu Awka primary school Awka and Lady Benedine Anagor , Education Secretary Awka North among others.There were voluntary testing conducted by COVID- 19 mobile testing team in which many voluntarily submitted to the testing which was free.
The Commissioner for Health had earlier announced that each person should voluntarily submit to the testing to help in taking precautionary measures to prevent any spread of the deasese.
In his reaction after the voluntary testing, Chief Joe Enemuo Board member PPSSC Otuocha Zone, charged all to submit themselves to the testing which is free so as to know their status and avoid spreading the deasese unknowingly.
Later each of the principals and Head teachers were handed over the infrared thermometer with a charge to safeguard andmake effective use of it
