Anambra state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala has advised the citizenry to desist from seeking shelter at uncompleted buildings as some of them poses danger to their life.


Commissioner Okpala who gave the advice when he visited the collapsed uncompleted one storey building at Obofia-Umuota ,Obosi and one of the victims at Chizoba Hospital, Awada-Obosi ,stated that life is precious hence the need to avoid living in houses or engaging in acts capable of endangering their life.


Dr Okpala who examined one of the victims, Mr. Monday Oka, at Chizoba Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment, said the victim is in a stable condition while the state government will follow up the treatment to ensure full recovery of the victim.


He further said that the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and the wife have also directed the Commissioner for Women Affairs to also follow up the six children of the deceased couple to ensure they are properly taken care of and thanked the leadership of Obofia Umuota Obosi for assistance to the victims.


The Medical Director of Chizoba Hospital, Obosi, Dr. Philip Anyaeji narrated how they attended to victims immediately they were brought to the hospital and appreciated the Commissioner’s visit which according to him has given hope to the victim and energized him, noting the laudable works of the state government in the Health Sector.


The President Umuota Obosi, Nze Uju Ifekandu said Obosi town Union has agreed to embark on search for such buildings in the town to forestall similar incident while the Chairman of Obofia Umuota Obosi, Mr.
Collins Chukwulobelu who briefed the Commissioner on their efforts at evacuation of the victims, disclosed that one of the victims whose leg was broken has been taken to his village by his relatives and pleaded for government’s assistance for the six children of the deceased couple as they are still in their tender ages and helpless.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by Anambra state Director, Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobe and others from the state Ministry of health.
