Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions has met for the second time, with Okpuno Community and the state Ministry of Lands over a land dispute between them.


During the meeting, the committee mandated the Ministry and the community to ensure that there is peace in the area pending the resolution of the matter.


House of Assembly correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the chairman of the Committee, Honourable Emeka Aforka, assured that the Committee will do everything within its legislative powers to achieve amicable settlement of the matter.


He directed the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Bonaventure Enemali to locate the plan number, AWK/47 of 3rd May 1995 as contained in the gazette of Anambra State and submit same to the committee.


This According to him will enable the Committee to determine the true positions of issues under contention as well as do justice to the matter.


He ordered Okpuno Community and the Ministry of Lands to submit to the Committee, all necessary documents relating to the land in dispute as the Committee does not want to live any stone unturned.


The Committee received a photocopy of survey plan of the land in dispute and the gazette from the Counsel to the petitioners, Barrister Mike Ikegbunam to further prove their case.


Also at the meeting, the former state Surveyor General, Mr. Ifeanyi Ajoku gave necessary explanations as regards the land in dispute.


In a vote of thanks, Mr. Enemali expressed confidence that the Committee has the capacity to arrest the matter, just as counsel to the people of Okpuno, Mr. Ikegbunam expressed satisfaction with the way the committee is handling the case.
