Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, has vowed to recover all government lands from illegal occupants irrespective of age and the level of development.
The Managing Director, ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa made the statement while demolishing, recovering and opening up an access road from the foot of Kwata flyover Sakamori drainage to Club road formally Abakaliki street.

The demolition exercise, which affected a hotel, also saw other illegal structures, shanties and fences demolished.
Venerable Okwuosa said the exercise was aimed at obeying the existing law that requires a certain set back from a Sakamori drainage and open up the access road as contained in the Awka master plan.
He explained that ACTDA is poised to building a cosmopolitan city with excellent infrastructures and preferred investment destination in Africa but cannot achieve the vision without totally enforcing building and developmental control.
While announcing their readiness to replicate same across the state, the ACTDA boss warned land buyers and sellers to keep away from government land to avoid losses as the long arms of the law must finally catch up with them.
Reacting to the development, one of the owners of a property along the recovered access road Mr. Osita Mba said even though his property was partially affected, he applauded the agency for the bold step, describing the exercise as one that will serve as a deterrent to others.
