Anambra State Ministry of Environment has expressed satisfaction with increasing participation of people in the l monthly sanitation exercise.
The Ministry gave the commendation when it’s personnel roved round Awka and its environs to assess the level of compliance by State residents in the exercise. Chibuzo Obidike reports that in her assessment on the participation of people in the exercise, the Director Environmental Health Pollution Control Department of the Ministry of Environment, Mrs Edith Ike noted that people are now imbibing the attitude of paying attention to the environment which according to her is commendable, noting that it is the reason the state Commissioner for Environment Mr. Obi Nwankwo rolled out appreciation items such as polos, fliers, receptacles among others as a way to encourage and support individuals who have cultivated the habit of participating in the monthly sanitation exercise as well as sensitize and prosecute others who disobey the sanitation law.


Mrs Ike explained that inspite of the impact of Coronavirus pandemic, the ministry did not relent in enforcing environmental sanitation Laws through the mobile Court initiative that is strategically positioned to ensure that state residents stay around their areas and clean up their surroundings.


At Ukwu-Oji off Old Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, the Senior Special Assistant to Anambra state Governor on Environment, Mr. Benedict Nwankwo noted that the essence of some initiative campaign such as Dobe Anambra Ocha is to champion the need for a cleaner environment which should be imbibe in all communities to restore the popular Olu Ezi in all parts of the state and warned the state citizenry against indiscriminate dumping of refuse at unauthorized places as the staff of Anambra State Waste Management Authority are on ground to arrest defaulters .
