World Tourism Day is set aside by the United Nations to highlight the power of tourism to touch on almost every part of human society.
Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha, reports that amid COVID-19 pandemic, which according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, has exposed millions of jobs in the tourism sector to risks.

This year’s edition of the event focuses on placing rural development at the heart of tourism policies through education, investment, innovation and technology.

Speaking on the event, the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Honourable Emma Nwafor, said Public Private Partnership, PPP, remains key in unlocking economic and other potentials in the nation’s tourism sector.

He noted that there are existing legal frameworks that have driven development in the sector, which in turn, enables successive administrations in the State to create direct and indirect job opportunities, as well as increase revenue accruable to the State and host communities.
Contributing, an Assistant Director of Tourism in the FCT, Mr. Osita Okafor, said providing incentives, such as soft and long-term loans to investors will help in robust development of the nation’s tourism sector.

He said such incentives from Federal and State governments will help in establishing and developing Tourism related fields and investments, such as hospitality industries, which will help in addressing challenges of unemployment in the country and bring about sustainable rural development.
