Eri House, Center for Research in Igbo history and culture, Umueri and its seventeen man member team have been inaugurated by the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka in company of Umueri Royal Cabinet.
The team among other things will be conducting research on history, culture and potential of different communities of Igbo land as well as help in developing them for posterity and growth of their communities.
Njideka Okoye of our Editorial Desk was there and reports that the Eri House project has three sections namely research and museum center, library and skill acquisition center for training of youths in different skills to become employers of labour.
In his address, Igwe Emeka while appreciating God, said that the project is long overdue as Umueri is the cradle of Igbo community, calling on Ndi Umueri to give the team maximum support to enable them achieve the desired result.
While thanking Governor Obiano for his development projects in Umueri, Igwe Emeka said that the Eri House is executed under the second phase of the Twenty Million Naira Community Choose Your Project Initiative of Governor Willie Obiano and urged the people of Umueri to contribute in equipping the three sections of the House which he said will not only benefit Umueri but the Igbo race in general.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman Caretaker Committee, Umueri General Assembly, Chief Sunday Nwarienne- Udealor and the Director Eri Research Center, Pastor Ben Agape who noted the importance of research and culture, thanked Igwe Emeka for the initiative and support, adding that the Center will have a branch at Ikenga Umueri where they will build a crafts village that will be replicated in every Igbo community that welcomes them.
The Ngwujiani Umueri, Chief Sam Umeadi thanked God for the caliber of Igwe Emeka whom he described as a gift to Umueri noting that God has used him to attract government presence and tremendous development to Umueri thanking governor Obiano for including Igwe Umueri among those who received a brand new car.
The Eri House project was located at Oke-ebo Estate Umueri Anambra East.
The event featured cultural dances by Otu Odu cultural group and Ovoakwu primary school cultural dances, prayers among others.
