The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria
on Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, has donated a truckload of
hospital equipment to Anambra State to help the state fight the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The hospital items, which were received by the Secretary to Anambra
State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu in Awka, included one
hundred automated beds, one hundred bedside lockers, one hundred
pillows and one hundred mattresses.
Professor Chukwulobelu, who spoke shortly after taking delivery of the
items, said the hospital equipment would complement the
already-existing health facilities put in place by the state
government to checkmate the pandemic.
He noted that the state has been able to contain the spread of the
virus, adding that the renovation of Onitsha General Hospital is
almost completed, and there were also plans to fix other hospitals in
the state.
On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Anambra State, Dr Vincent
Okpala, disclosed that Anambra State’s health status was already
strong before the coronavirus pandemic, stating that the equipment
only support the already-strengthened health system.
Dr Okpala also stated that the state is making efforts to also ensure
that other diseases are not sidelined in the course of tackling
COVID-19.
The Focal Person, Sustainable Development Goals’ office in Anambra
State, Mrs Chioma Ezechukwu, who handed over the equipment on behalf
of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable
Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, said the
donation which was made in line with the SDGs’ health objectives is
intended to re-energize the state as it continues to wage war against
the deadly virus.
Also present to receive the donated items was the Executive Director,
Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Mr Cyril Agupugo.
