The need to tackle gender based and sensitive issues, through the instrumentality of the womenfolk have been emphasized.

The emphasis came to the fore when the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Anambra State chapter paid a courtesy visit to the chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Anambra State Chapter, Professor Peter Katchy.

Professor Katchy, who received the association at the Anambra State headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society at Amawbia, said though under the mass media profession, every practitioner is regarded as masculine, commended the women for carving a niche for themselves through hard work in tackling gender sensitive issues and other social vices bedeviling the society.

Unveiling the aims and objectives of their visit, the former chair person, Anambra State NAWOJ and Vice Presidential candidate for Zone C, Comrade Stella Igboka, noted that the visit was aimed at partnering media friendly organizations and explained the place of the Association in lending its voice in gender sensitive issues.

Also speaking, the state Secretary of the Credential Committee of NAWOJ, Comrade Ebele Ezeh of the ABS, explained that it was in respect of the Association’s upcoming Triennial Delegate Conference, in November at Niger State, where the state chapter is presenting a candidate for the position of Vice President Zone C that they embarked on the visit.

In a vote of thanks, the immediate past National Treasurer of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and the General Manager of Kpakpando Radio, Comrade Monic Okechukwu, commended Professor Katchy for his wonderful works at the Nigerian Red Cross Society as well as his friendly disposition assuring of continued working relationship for the benefit of the society.

Others present during the visit were the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Engineer Kingsley Okoye and the state, Communication Coordinator, Mr. Fidelis Ikejei.
