Over one thousand less privileged and physically challenged persons have received succour as wife of the Governor of Anambra State and founder of the charity-based organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, continued her 2020 LGA tour in Orumba North and South.
The beneficiaries, mostly women and the elderly, selected from each of the thirty-one communities that make up the two local government areas, received bags of rice and cash, while the children received school bags filled with educational materials.
The tour which has become an annual fixture, is an avenue for the governor’s wife to meet and interact with the people, especially grassroots women, on different socio-economic issues including health, career development, empowerment, agriculture, social and community development.
In her speech, Dr Mrs Obiano, described this period as a time of great need for the people, especially the poor, adding that she defied the setbacks arising from the coronavirus pandemic to embark on the tour to see how the people are bracing life, to give aid to the less privileged and to also ensure that everyone is staying safe.
She asked people to discard the wrong notion that COVID-19 does not exist, noting that it was still crucial that people obey all the safety protocols beginning with social distancing, urging teachers to ensure they control school children from close-up interactions especially during playtime in schools.
A former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Chief Emeka Sibeudu, who spoke at Orumba South, described the Governor’s wife as a genuine image of kindness, noting her humanitarian programmes over the last seven years as historical.
In their addresses, the members representing Orumba North and South at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Emeka Aforka and Honourable Emma Nwafor, noted that this year’s visits have become most unique because indigent persons who have been most hit by the economic setbacks of COVID-19 have their hopes strengthened.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Architect Mike Okonkwon and that of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, said that the tour has become a liberating experience given the immense number of people that benefit from it.
In their respective remarks, the Transition Committee Chairmen of Orumba North and South Local Government Areas, Barrister Obinna Ikwueto and Mr Cyprain Okereke, said that having defied the difficulties associated with the coronavirus pandemic to embark on this year’s tour, Dr Mrs Obiano has proven that her love for the helpless remains unparalleled.
The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Chieftaincy Matters and Community Liason, Mrs Vera-Queen Okonkwo, Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mrs Ify Obinabo, Anambra-born foremost Professor of Political Science and Public Administration and former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission, Humphrey Nwosu, Anambra-based entrepreneur, Dr Forster Ihejiofor, Presidents General of different communities in the two local government areas led by the President General, Umunze Progressive Union, Honourable John Akanyeonu, among others, attended the event.
The Governor’s wife shall continue her tour with Aguata and Anaocha Local Government Areas, on Thursday, October 8th, 2020.
