Anambra State teachers have been commended for their commitment to the
realization of government’s mandate to the Education sector.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate
Omenugha made the statement during the 2020 World Teachers’ Day
celebration.

At the event to mark the celebration held at Eagles Square Abuja,
Anambra State was presented with a brand new bus to Grundtvig
Secondary School, Oba for emerging the overall best private school in
Nigeria.

It will be recalled that Anambra State had in 2017, 2018 and 2019, won
the best teacher, best administrator and best secondary school awards
respectively, at the President’s Teachers’ and Schools Excellence
Award.

The Commissioner said the numerous awards Anambra State had won in
education was an indication of the hard work of teachers in the state.

Prof. Omenugha also applauded the teachers for their contributions in
making Anambra a reference point whenever education is mentioned
across the globe.

The Commissioner thanked the teachers for making themselves available
for the Teaching on Air programme which commenced on April 1, 2020,
when schools were shut down in March 24, 2020, as a result of the
coronavirus pandemic.

She encouraged them to strive for honesty, self-improvement and
perfection, noting that teaching was not just a profession but a
calling.

The Commissioner also applauded Governor Willie Obiano for creating
the enabling environment for both public and private schools in
Anambra to excel in the provision of qualitative education to students
in the state.
