The Women Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN, Anambra State chapter has been inaugurated.
The program which took place at the Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Headquarters, Awka, attracted officials from South East and beyond who witnessed the inauguration.
Religion Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye was there and reports that while addressing the women who came from across the five blocks that make up CAN, Governor Willie Obiano said that the state is leading in all aspects of human development, including administration, security of lives and property as well as other sectors of the state economy.
Governor Obiano represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters, Sir Anselm Okafor noted that women occupied many positions in the present administration as the Governor is gender friendly assuring of sustained partnership with the WOWICAN.
While inaugurating the executive, the South East Chairman of CAN, Bishop Goddy Okafor represented by the South East Secretary CAN, Reverend Dr Chinedu Nwokolo charged the executive to stand as a united body to defend Christian faith that is facing fierce challenges and to uphold the injunctions of Jesus Christ to be steadfast to the end.
In a message during the inauguration, the South East Director of Education, Women and Youths Development, CAN, Reverend Chidi Mmadubuko who spoke on “character building, essentials needed to project the glory of God” noted that character is paramount in life and when possessed positively, the world will turn to Christ.
On her part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor On Environment and Beautification, Mrs. Ify Anataogu while interacting with the women on relevance of women in progressive and sustainable leadership, noted that it is important that parents give their girl child quality education so as to be empowered.
The newly inaugurated chairperson of WOWICAN, Barrister Mrs. Mercy Ndubuisi said that their aim and objective include fostering unity among Christian women, maintenance of the biblical standard of Christian ethics, conduct and discipline among others.
Those present at the event were, the State Chairman of CAN, Reverend John Ndubuisi, the outgoing chairperson of WOWICAN Reverend Dr Ebelechukwu and many others.
