The Member representing Anambra West Constituency at the State House
of Assembly, Honourable Patrick Obalim-Udoba has joined in the call on
the federal government to dredge the River Niger as part of measures
to stop the incessant flooding bedeviling his people.
He made the call after inspecting the level of havoc wrecked by this
year’s flooding in his constituency and regretted that the flooding which has
become a recurring decimal has dealt a big blow to socio-economic
development of his constituents.
The Lawmaker regretted that his people have been subjected to
hardships because of the flood which happens annually and disclosed
that this year’s flood has damaged many crops and property and called
on both National Emergency Management Agency and Anambra State
Emergency Management Agency to expedite action and come to the aid of
his constituents.
He further revealed that Anambra State House of Assembly is coming
with Riverine Areas Development Commission Bill to help alleviate the
sufferings of the people of riverine communities each time there is
flooding.
In their separate remarks, Messrs Ikechukwu Udenze from Mmiata Anam
and Sunday Nwachukwu from Umuenwelum Anam lamented that the incessant
flooding has caused them fortune, as all their crops were submerged
and appealed to both the government and people of goodwill to come to
their aid.
