Associations of Ndi Amawbia in the United States of America have distributed palliatives to six hundred Amawbia indigent persons at home, to cushion the effects of Coronavirus pandemic on them.
Items donated by the groups include bags of rice, beans, cartons of noodles, tin tomatoes, groundnut oil and cash.
The groups that donated the palliatives include Atu United States Chapter, Amawbia Town Women Association, USA, and Amawbia Youth and Umu Nwadiana in the USA.
During the distribution, each of the beneficiaries selected from the six villages that make-up Amawbia community including none indigenes, received a bag of rice and beans, carton of noodles, tin tomatoes, groundnut oil and two thousand naira cash.
Speaking at the event, the Traditional Ruler of the community, Igwe Nnaemeka Nworah-Muolokwu while appreciating the associations for remembering the less privileged persons in the community, called on people to always imbibe the spirit of love and unity for the progress of the community.
For the wife of the traditional ruler, Lolo Justina Nworah-Muolokwu the action by the groups is a true definition of brotherly love and care for the downtrodden and should be emulated by others.
The President General of Amawbia Town Union, Chief Ebele Nwufo represented by Sir Chukwukadibia Nathaniel, Chairman of the Palliative Committee, Mr. Akonam Okongu and Amawbia Woman Leader, Mrs. Chinwe Nwanna, thanked the donors and asked those that did not benefit in this first phase, to be patient as there are other phases including youth empowerment scheme.
In their various speeches, some of the beneficiaries, including Mr.
Matthew Enukorah-Nwaisu, Mrs. Zipporah Uzoegbo, Mrs. Chinyere Okechukwu and a resident of the town, from Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Glory Bassi thanked the associations for coming to their aid and prayed God to bless them abundantly.
