Nigerian women and children have not fared too well as Nigeria’s poor
health indices remains at maternal mortality ratio of five hundred and
fifteen per one hundred thousand live births while prenatal mortality
rate stands at forty nine per one thousand live births.
The Minister of health Dr Osagie Ehanire disclosed this while speaking
at the launch of the reproductive, maternal, newborn, child,
adolescent and elderly health plus nutrition multi stakeholders
partnership coordination plan.
Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that the Minister also revealed
that Neonatal mortality is at thirty eight per one thousand live
births, infant mortality is sixty seven per one thousand live births
while under five mortality is one hundred and thirty two per one
thousand live births.
Dr. Ehanire, therefore promised that Nigeria is unequivocally
committed to the attainment of the Universal Health Coverage and the
Sustainable Development Goals while stressing that the journey has not
been easy but partnership and coordination fraught with challenges.
