Anambra State Commissioner for Transport Mr Afam Mbanefo says the Ministry will intensify efforts aimed at ensuring Safety and free flow of traffic in line with operation Decongest Anambra Roads.
Disclosing this, when the Special Joint Enforcement Team of Anambra State Transport Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Service, OCHA Brigade embarked on decongestion of the Ogbunike Toll Gate axis of the Enugu-Onitsha express way the Commissioner stressed the need for traffic control within metropolitan areas of the State, in view of the Ember Months period to facilitate free vehicular movement and security.
Expressing readiness to collaborate with task force domicile in the Ministry to curb challenges and obstructions caused by commercial drivers, especially at gridlock prone areas, the Commissioner called for consciousness on traffic rules, charging the monitoring public to uphold ethics of driving to reduce road crashes and difficulties.
On his part, the Director of Operations, Anambra Traffic Management Agency Mr. Samuel Ezenduka who noted that the State government will establish a mobile court to prosecute offenders, explained that enforcement exercise was necessitated by the need to clear the roads of articulated and heavy duty vehicles, blocking and damaging the roads.
Lamenting the poor attitude of road users who contravene the law and have turned the highway into parks and Mechanic workshops, Mr Ezenduka maintained that the full arm of the law will take its course on traffic offenders.
Some defaulters that were apprehended for violating traffic rules were bundled into ATMA vehicle for further interrogation.
