The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala says the state government will continue to put emphasis on the overall healthy living of every girl child in Anambra state.
Dr. Okpala disclosed this when the forty third Miss Nigeria Queen, Miss Beauty Tukura and others paid him a courtesy visit in Awka.
Welcoming Miss Nigeria and her entourage in his office, Dr. Okpala who praised her for her humanitarian services, said that the state government is doing everything humanly possible to ensure the overall healthy living of the girl children, especially the vulnerable and those living in hard to reach areas in Anambra state.
Dr. Okpala maintained that some of the pet projects the Nigerian beauty queen has embarked upon is in line with the health policies and programmes of the Willie Obiano administration and pledged the state government’s support to all her pet projects geared towards building the Anambra girl child academically, health and otherwise, urging her not to relent.
Briefing the Commissioner on the reason for her visit, Miss Tukura said that she was in her office to tell him about her pet project which she called “Girls Lead Club” that has already been launched in Omor Ayamelum Local Government Area of the state.
Miss Tukura explained that the Club was meant to educate, sensitize every girl child on the dangers of early marriage, advantages of education and much more, but she cannot achieve her desire without those involved having quality health care, which is why she wants to partner with the Ministry to achieve her desire.
Also speaking, an Executive Director of Whispering Hope African Initiative, Miss Nkechi Udegboka who said that they have been working in hinterland areas of Anambra state teaching young girls about HIV and AIDS as well as dangers of early marriage, revealed that their research in Ayamelum has shown that early marriage of teenage girls are on the increase and most of them do not take their reproductive health seriously.
