As Anambra Governor’s Wife, Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano continues her visits to the twenty-one Local Government Areas of Anambra State, widows, less privileged and physically challenged persons in Anambra State have appealed to the wife of the next governor of state to emulate her charity-driven programs in Anambra State.
The widows, the aged, less privileged persons and the physically challenged who have become accustomed to Dr Mrs Obiano’s humanitarian programmes, noted the various interventions of her non-governmental organization, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, over the last six years, and expressed worry that their current hopes might be dashed when the tenure of the present administration wounds down in March, 2022.
The beneficiaries bared their minds at Awka North and Njikoka Local Government Areas, where Dr Mrs Obiano continued her visits.
The LGA tour which has become an annual schedule for the Governor’s wife for the past six years, is a platform to meet and interact with the people, especially grassroots women, on different socio-economic issues including health, career development, empowerment, agriculture, social and community development.
Speaking at each of the two local government areas, Dr Mrs Obiano noted that she decided not to cancel the annual tour despite the COVID-19, given that she knew the economic difficulties that the people, especially the poor, have been made to go through, adding that she would never feel comfortable knowing that they needed her the most and she failed to turn up.
The Governor’s wife, stated that the global freefall of oil price has had its own toll on the economy of Nigeria and in extension Anambra State, but noted that Governor Willie Obiano’s prudent management of the state’s economy has lifted the burden off the shoulders of Ndi Anambra.
The member representing Awka North Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief John Nwokoye, that of Njikoka Constituency One, Honourable Timothy Ifedioranma and Njikoka Constituency Two, Honourable Pete Ibida, said that the Governor’s wife’s benevolence has remained glaring, with her support to Governor Obiano enhancing the success story of the present administration.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Mr Ferdinand Onwuje and that of Njikoka, Chief George Ozo, said that the annual tour has gone far in uplifting the lives of the people.
In their respective remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Fire Service, and Special Adviser on Innovative Security, Retired Air Vice Marshall Ben Chiobi and the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, observed that Dr Mrs Obiano has set a historical blueprint for charity and would be leaving a big pair of shoes for the wife of the next governor given the unprecedented achievements she has recorded.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, that of Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Security, Chief Chikaodili Anarah, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Chief Uche Nworah, a former Chairman of Awka North Local Government Area, Chief Emeka Onwuzuka, among others, were present at the visits.
Dr Mrs Obiano shall continue her tour today, Thursday, October 15th, at Nnewi North and South Local Government Areas.
