Governor Willie Obiano has called on Artisans and Transporters in the state to avail themselves the opportunity to benefit from the federal government’s Artisan and Transport Support Scheme by applying and adhering strictly to the instructions that guide the scheme application.

Governor Obiano made the call at the Government House, Awka, during a town hall meeting organized by federal government through Bank of Industry in collaboration with the state government for Chairmen of all Artisans and Transporters associations in Anambra.

The Federal government’s Artisan and Transport Support Scheme is a scheme under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Survival Fund program, designed to provide three hundred and thirty-three thousand artisans and transport business operators with a thirty thousand naira operations grant to reduce the effect of income loss during the Covid-19 pandemic and its resultant lockdown.

Nine thousand, nine persons are to benefit from the scheme from each of the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Abuja.
Governor Obiano who was represented by the state Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, commended the federal government for the scheme and other schemes which have direct impact on the people.

Addressing the people, the Anambra State Manager, Bank of Industry, Mr.
Monday Edilim who spoke on behalf of the federal government, restated the commitment of the Buhari led administration to bettering the lives of the less privileged persons in the country, and assured that selection of beneficiaries for the grant will be done transparently.

Also speaking, the Managing Director, Anambra Small Business Agency, Sir Clem Chukwuka who is also the Anambra State Government Focal Person in the scheme, disclosed that for one to be eligible to benefit from the scheme, he must belong to a registered business group, have Bank Verification Number, BVN, Bank Account, and Valid Identification Number and asked the artisans and transporters to submit their forms on or before Tuesday next week which is the deadline for the application, in order to be among those that will benefit first in the scheme.

In their remarks on behalf of other Chairmen, the representative of Ochotaraudo Farms and Associates, Mr. Chukwuemeka Abiakam, and that of Orumba North Local Government Association of Market Women, Mrs.
Virginia Okeke, thanked the federal and state governments for the initiative which they said will boost their businesses, and assured judicious use of the money on reception.
