In fulfillment of his promise, Anambra State Governor, visited the former Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS formations in Anambra state  and released  three detainees.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the former offices sited at Neni, Ekwulobia and Awkuzu were visited by the Governor under the rain, to have first hand knowledge of the state of the facilities.
The released detainees are Chinedu Aneke, Chibuike Ezejiofor and Stephen John.
At Neni, the Governor inspected the facilities including the cells, where nobody was being detained, while at the Awkuzu office which has been converted to a CID office, Governor Obiano toured the facility including the interrogation room, among others.
 Governor Obiano said that the Commissioner of Police in the state has released everyone detained illegally,  while that  those  remanded by the order of the court, will remain there until their cases are determined.
The Governor said that on Monday, 20th October, 2020, he will inaugurate a panel headed by a Retired Chief Judge where public Petitions SARS activities   will be entertained, within a month and advise the Governor accordingly, promising to address the demands of the protesters.
While reassuring ndi Anambra that he will continue to execute his constitutional role of protecting their lives and property, he asked the protesters to go about demonstration of  their rights peacefully without blocking the roads, urging the police not to be despaired as government will continue to support their crime fighting responsibility.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang  disclosed  that a former Commissioner of Police is now in charge of the Awkuzu office.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nworgu, among others, accompanied the Governor on the visit.
Recall that while addressing protesters  who besieged the Awka Government House and the Expressway on  Thursday, 15th October, 2020, Governor Obiano promised to personally visit the SARS  offices to address the issues raised by the protesters  within his powers.
The #ENDSARS protest was ignited many days ago in most parts of the Country with various messages and demands to stop police brutality through total reform of the  police system.
