Anambra State Government has lifted the ban that suspended all the Igweship elections, town unions, government elections, National elections of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU and ASATU Youth Wing elections.
In a press release signed by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Greg Obi, the suspension of the ban is effective from November 2, 2020.
The State Government had in May, 2020 suspended all the community based government elections due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Statement, therefore, directs that future elections must be conducted under COVID- 19 protocols and under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Government Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.
