Youths have been charged to shun violence, enthrone peace and protect both government and private property in their various areas.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Youth Development, Mr Eloka Egbunike gave the charge while addressing Onitsha North youths who staged a peaceful march calling for an end to violence.

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who covered the event reports that the youths comprise both Indigenes and Non Indigenes living within the Local Government Area.

Mr Egbunike who commended the youths for exhibiting a high sense of maturity described Onitsha as a peaceful community and called for the collaborative efforts of all for a new beginning saying that the government has heard the voice of the youths and urged them to allow the government act noting that peace ushers in meaningful development.

He commended the Onitsha Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Mr John Oguagbaka for his efforts in maintaining law and order in the community and assured that no police property will be vandalised in Onitsha North Local Government area.

On his part, the Onitsha Area Commander, Mr Oguagbaka commended Onitsha North for their thoughtfulness stating that Onitsha youths have all it takes to secure their community as it is their own and must be defended and urged them to sustain the tempo.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Onitsha North Local Government area, Mr Patrick Agha-Mba stated that it is the responsibility of the youths to protect their community adding that this is the first time Nigerian Youths are coming together to speak with one voice saying that Onitsha Youths gathered to give their message of peace and love in Onitsha.

The President-General of Onitsha Improvement Union Sir Chike Ekweogu assured Onitsha youths of Igwe Alfred Achebe’s support urging them to ensure Peace, discipline and oneness.

Speaking to the ABS in their separate interviews, some of the youths Messrs Onochie Ozoma and Edozie Nwadiogbu noted that the youths are the security and Vanguard of the society.

The youths were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions, such as “No more Violence in Onitsha”, “Onitsha youths are peaceful”, Onitsha needs peace” “No more vandalisation” among others.
