Youths in Idemili South local government area have engaged in a peaceful demonstration against violent protest that resulted in destruction of properties in Anambra.

The peaceful demonstration took the youths round parts of communities in the council area and terminated at the local council secretariat, Ojoto where they were received by the council Transition Committee Chairman, Mr Don Unachukwu.

Correspondent, Ngozi Obileri covered the protest and reports that the youths who came out in their numbers walked along Nkpor-Umuoji-Ojoto – Uke road carrying placards with inscriptions like “no more hoodlums”, “no more violence”, “no more destruction of property” , “if you must be violent go to your state”, “Anambra is a peaceful state”, among others.

Speaking at the council secretariat Ojoto, a youth leader in Ojoto Architect Chinedu Mokwe said they would no longer fold their arms and watch looters and hoodlums destroy what took Anambra state government a lot of resources and time to build.

He said that henceforth, anybody seen fomenting trouble in their area will be severely dealt with as according to him, they are now combat ready to defend Anambra which he said is their only state.

Also, another youth leader , Miss Florence Nwizu noted that the normal protest by the youths to drive home their grievances is a welcome development but made clear that they can no longer condone people leaving their states to come and destroy Anambra.

Receiving the group, the Transition Committee chairman for Idemili South Mr Unachukwu commended the youths for accepting the truth and for fighting for what belongs to them by protesting against destruction of facilities in the state.

While emphasising that the protests against police brutality is commendable, Mr Unachukwu charged the youths to always follow dialogue instead of destruction as according to him violence has never solved any problem.
